Witness the Big Event in Brockville, On

Brockville is in a unique position to experience the upcoming rare celestial event. On Monday, April 8, 2024, a remarkable alignment of the Sun, Moon, and Earth will occur, resulting in a total solar eclipse. During this phenomenon, the Moon’s shadow will traverse the Earth’s surface, moving from the southwest to the northeast across North America.

While various regions in Canada have had the opportunity to witness partial eclipses in the past, the upcoming event promises something extraordinary. Unlike the total solar eclipse visible from Canada’s far north in August 2008, this occasion holds special significance for millions of Canadians. For the first time since February 26, 1979, many will have the chance to witness a total solar eclipse without the need to venture far from their homes.

Viewing Area

The absolute best views of the April 8, 2024, solar eclipse are expected along a roughly 200-kilometre-wide line stretching from the equatorial Pacific to the north Atlantic, crossing through Mexico, the United States, and eastern Canada.

This is the Path of Totality, and it is where the Moon will appear to completely cover the Sun. Observers in that path will witness an eerie darkness cast over the area as the Moon’s shadow sweeps past. They will also have a chance to see the Sun’s corona for themselves.

In Canada, Brockville is perfectly aligned inside of the path of totality!
